Frequently Asked Questions

If you are new to Pilates you must have a lot of questions. For your convenience, we have gathered the most frequently asked questions about My Fit Over 50.

About Midlife Vitality

Midlife Vitality was created for women who want to take care for their whole body health now and for the future through targeted exercise/movement, holistic nutrition and traditional Chinese medicine guidance.

If you’re navigating perimenopause in your mid 40s, menopause in your 50s or looking to find a sustainable approach to exercise beyond 60, we can help.

You don’t need to be fit, flexible or experienced to begin, you just have to start.

No. Menopause is just one part of the midlife experience, but it isn’t the sole focus of the membership.

Midlife Vitality considers the wider changes women experience as they age. Changes in strength, mobility, energy, recovery, nutritional needs, stress, sleep, emotional/spiritual needs and life goals.

Midlife Vitality brings together a whole body approach that includes functional Pilates & movement exercises, targeted holistic nutrition and traditional Chinese medicine wisdom.

Cindy draws on her professional experience across these areas to help women think about their health holistically. The focus is not on punishing workouts, restrictive diets or working toward a body you had in your twenties. It’s about moving, eating and living in a way that reflects what your body needs now and for the future to come.

Traditional Chinese medicine offers a wider way of thinking about health. It considers how factors such as nourishment, rest, stress, energy, the nervous system and different stages of life can influence one another.

Within the membership, Cindy shares TCM-informed education and practical ideas that can help you understand your body more fully and establish supportive routines. This general guidance does not replace individual diagnosis, treatment or medical care.

Movement and Classes

No previous Pilates experience is required, however you must be in good health to attend the virtual classes. They are not appropriate if you are pregnant, have a major injury, have had hip replacements or have a compromised spine.

If you are new to Pilates or returning to movement after time away, it is best to start with the recorded foundation classes and videos first then progress into the live classes. When you sign up you’ll first have a conversation with Cindy to receive some guidance about where to start.

It’s important you check with your health care practitioner or doctor before starting any new physical activity.

You don’t need to be in shape before starting our virtual classes. The classes are designed to help support everyday movement, working on balance, strength and flexibility. You can begin with the foundation class or shorter videos until you feel ready to join our live class.

Consistency matters more than trying to do everything at once.

The 30 minute virtual live classes are not at a basic level, but Cindy will always provide modifications for the more advanced exercises. Each Pilates class is put together for a midlife body; working on balance, strength, mobility and flexibility.

These classes are not appropriate for you if you are recovering from an injury, surgery, back pain, hip replacements, are pregnant or if you have been told to avoid certain movements.

If you are unsure if the class is appropriate for you please contact Cindy before starting.

Before starting a new exercise regime, check in with your doctor or health practitioner. Please seek the treatment if needed for an injury before attending a class or doing a video.

Stop exercising if you experience sudden or unusual pain, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath beyond normal exertion or another symptom that concerns you.

Seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before returning to exercise. If you believe you may be experiencing a medical emergency, contact emergency services immediately.

You will need enough clear space to lie down and move comfortably, a reliable internet connection and clothing that allows you to move freely.

A Pilates or exercise mat and resistance band are needed (if you live in Toronto you can buy a latex free band and 1/2 roller from her). Some classes may use additional props such as hand weights, a sturdy chair, pillow or roller. Cindy will tell you what is needed for each class and simple alternatives may sometimes be used.

Live classes are recorded regularly and available in your movement library on your membership page for you to do when your schedule permits.

The Start IT level also includes one weekly live 30 minute class and the All IN level provides two weekly live 30 minute classes.

Currently there are two available live 30 minutes classes available. Monday at 10amEST offers a class that suitable for those just starting out or needing to work at a lower level. Fridays at 10amEST offers a more active class and may not be suitable for everyone.

Please contact Cindy if you’re not sure which is best for you.

If you cannot attend live, you can use the available recording instead.

Yes, you will be asked to read and accept a participation waiver when you join.

Cindy will also contact you as part of the welcome process to learn more about your experience and help you determine which classes are most appropriate.
